Yutaji the Flesh Mage

The Flesh Mage himself, in the flesh.

Yutaji the Flesh Mage is a resident of the Desert of Tears and an erstwhile servant of the Desert Lords. He created the Pain Golem, which the Desert Lords used to conquer and enslave the native people, driving them to the corners of Drakan. Yutaji went mad in their service, mutilating himself in the most horrific way, all the while continuing to make animated creations for the Desert Lords. He maintained a palace in the Desert Lords' home of Stratos, where he was sent beautiful slave girls to be his "brides". In fact, he would take these women, place them on an altar, skin them, and wear their skin as his own.

Overview[]

Possibly the most disturbing character in the entire game, the Flesh Mage is a sorcerer, said to be even more powerful than the Desert Lords themselves. He is skilled at creating Golems, as his palace, the Necropolis, is filled with them, and possibly skilled at necromancy as well since his palace is also inhabited by the undead. The Flesh Mage was put under a spell by Jasaad that made him lose his mind and placed his soul in a magical urn. Because of this, the Desert Lords themselves fear him and have sealed him up in his own palace. To appease him, the Desert Lords send slave girls, his "brides", into the palace where the Mage strips them of their flesh and wears it as a cloak. The Flesh Mage was the one who created the Pain Golem, the most powerful soldier in the Desert Lords' army, and holds the only key to defeating it, the Golem Staff. If Rynn is to defeat the Pain Golem, she must confront the mage and claim the Golem Staff.

Dialogue[]

"Come my sweet bride. Come and embrace your loving husband."

"Ah, new flesh! So youthful and so smooth! Your skin will make a fine addition to my robe."

"Come, my little plaything... I want to hear your beautiful screams."

"No, my sweet! Do not touch that! Its magic will burn your beautiful flesh."

"No! You don't know what you've done! The jar bears my essence! It is my life!"

"Girl... hear me. The madness has passed, and my life fades."

"I see now that it was Jasaad who betrayed me, warping my mind with a spell of insanity."

"His treachery was most cruel, but perhaps in my last act, I can aid you against him."

"The pain golem, my greatest creation, is powered by a fragment of my soul."

"Please, take my staff. Use it to release the last spark, of my life, and at last, I will be free of this world."

Trivia[]

  • When Rynn enters the Bridal Halls, she will also get brainwashed and turned into a bride- this will trigger a unique alternate "bad ending" cutscene (the only instance of this in both games) where Yutaji looks over Rynn on an operating table and prepares to cut her up. If the player wishes to avoid this and continue with the game properly, they need to first kill Grotus (a guardian Djinn) and take away from him a magical potion which gives the drinker immunity to the mind control spell.
